Best I can remember, It’s been nearly a year since Rachel showed up on my doorstep with this quilt top in her arms.
Rachel, better known in our Texas circles as “#5″ is a friend of mine that lives in Arkansas. In Arkansas she does a lot of hanging out with her awesome grandmother; both Rachel and her grandma are the kind of ladies that like to keep their hands busy at all times. #5, under the direction and supervision of her grandma, pieced together this very awesome, very unique quilt top. I then handed the quilt top (that, for you non-quilters out there, is simply the top of the quilt. Not the batting [warm stuff in the middle] or the backing [fabric on the back] or the edging [fabric that goes around the edge.]) to my mother, professional quilter, who finished it for me and dropped it off at my house tonight while I was out watching a movie. (Thank you, mom. You totally rule.)

Here’s 5 things I love about this quilt:
#1.) Rachel made it.
#2.) Rachel gave it to me unfinished because she thought me and mom would finish it faster than she would. It took us almost an entire calendar year to finish the quilt. Rachel will still say that we finished it faster than she would. I have no idea why I’m using the plural here. By “we” I mean “my mom” who did all of the work.
#3.) I love that my mom hauled this quilt down to my aunt’s quilting machine where, undoubtedly, she and her sisters all sat around for hours scratching their heads wondering why in the world anyone would want a quilt with Edward Scissorhands’ face on it.
#4.) This quilt has Edward Scissorhands’ face on it.
#5.) I love the colors, and the contrast between the warm colors and the stark black and white fabrics. Mostly, though, I love that when Rachel was telling me about her choices for the fabrics, she explained to me that she imagined that if Edward Scissorhands was to design his own custom Tuxedo, that she could see him wearing one made out of these fabrics — a pinstriped suit jacket, a copper shirt, a toile cumberbun perhaps, and a floral bowtie. And I can totally see it, too.

Thanks, Rachel.
