Non-Philosophical Cop Out Post

Tonight Zack, my dad and I went to go see Donald Miller speak on his Million Miles book tour.  Gabby and her parents told us that he was coming through town, and I’m so, so glad that they did.  The evening was fantastic and my head is swimming with so much information about writing and God and life that I’m not going to be able to sort it all out this evening.  Click on that link to see if he’s coming to your town.  If he’s coming anywhere close to you, you should go hear him speak.

So, in lieu of philosophical ramblings regarding my interpretations of Donald Miller’s fantastic presentation, I’m giving you a video clip.  Because it’s NaBloPoMo and I have to post every day. And because I have the rest of the month to piece together a wordy post about narrative and conflict.

Community‘s been rocking my world this season. In last week’s episode, there was a fantastically clever exchange that I am still laughing about 3 days later. (I can’t find a clip of it anywhere, so you’ll just have to go watch the whole episode to see it.)
Chevy Chase’s character asks his band-mate the question, “Are you trying to Garfunkel me?”
And the doofus of a band-mate replies, “Maybe. Assuming that to ‘Garfunkel’ someone is to put up with them even though they’re a fat lazy cat who hogs the spotlight and eats all the lasagna.”

  1. lovely sarah, i so badly wanted to hear donald miller speak, have you read his new book…i have just finished it and i am still trying to process into words what it is exactly i think about it…anyways i would love to hear what he is like not in print form.

  2. katieface, they had a CD of the lecture for purchase and Zack and I picked up a copy. I’m going to figure out a way to get that onto the world wide web, and then you can listen to it yourself. He was pretty awesome in real life, basically the exact kind of person that we could really hang out with. Thoughtful yet funny, sarcastic yet sincere. And of course, highly entertaining (as I’m sure you’d imagined). I’ll let you (and everyone else) know when I get it online. D.Miller himself told the audience to “pirate the hell out of it,” so I feel no weirdness about whoring it out :)

  3. I saw Donald Miller speak on his tour last month, and it was really good. I took lots of notes. Felt like a nerd for doing so since nobody around me was so concerned with remembering everything he said, but maybe that’s b/c they knew they could get the audio. I must have missed that part. Anyway, looking forward to reading your thoughts on it. I never got mine blogged. I wish I would have.

  4. Hey Sarah!

I met you at the MBC Women’s Retreat and never got a chance to tell you how much I enjoyed your written piece in the talent show! It was awesome…I KNEW you had to be a writer/blogger. Great job! You are very talented….seriously.

I LOVE Community…what a hilarious show and the rap had been played many times at our house.
