This Post Is About SYTYCD.

If you TiVo’ed the final and you haven’t seen it yet and you don’t want to know what happened, turn ye away.  Cause I’m about to rant.

——————

I’ll be damned if America didn’t just pick the wrong dancer as their favorite.

Don’t get me wrong about Russell.  I like him.  I like him a lot, even!  I think it’s fantastic that he’s a krumper who’s willing to point his toes!  And his lines are beautiful, and he’s strong and likeable and everything.  I just don’t think he should be The Favorite.

For once, I just wanted The Best to be The Favorite, too.  Nobody in their right mind would argue that Jakob wasn’t the best dancer from Season 6.  Hell, I think he’s the best dancer that the show has ever had.  He’s so good, in fact, that he didn’t get better in the duration of the show.  He made everyone look good.  He made all of his partners better dancers.  Ashleigh has Jakob to thank for her whole tenure on the show this season–she improved so rapidly while she was paired with Jakob that she learned enough to propel her through the rest of the eliminations.  Unfortunately, the down side of being so good that you can’t grow is that the audience can’t connect to your fantastic journey.  We just got to see dancing perfection week after week, but NO. That’s not good enough for AMERICA.

Le Sigh.  Jakob, you totally won in my heart.  Every time you raised that one teeny little eyebrow and mouthed the words “Thank you” to the judges as they once again commented on your artistic perfection I smiled along with you.

And furthermore, Russell really should have been 3rd.  That’s right.  I’ll say it.  If we’re going to go around picking FAVORITES instead of BESTS, we should have had Little Miss Kathryn up there with all the confetti.  That girl is incredible.  Every time she dances I can’t take my eyes off of her–I’ve loved her since the very start.

I am, however, consoled by the fact that the evening’s best performance was delivered by none other than another competition show’s non-winner.  “America voted wrong,” I said, as we watched Adam Lambert belt out his (yeah, I’m about to admit this…) incredibly catchy new tune.  “Meh,” Zack said.  “It’s not the first time we’ve screwed up a vote.”

  1. Yeah, I have to admit. I hated Adam Lambert’s AMA performance, but I love his voice and still adore him. *sigh* I’m weak.

  2. I couldn’t get into the Adam Lambert song at all. It didn’t make any sense to me: “what do you want from me” then you are too good for me but stay anyway? I am not saying songs have to make sense, but some songs have a story. This one seemed to, but have a story that didn’t make sense.

My fav was still Eleanor. I actually didn’t like Jakob at first, but he grew on me. This season blew so many seasons out of the water…it was awesome.
