Good News, Good News, Bad News

Good News: My patient didn’t die before I got to the hospital this morning, nor did the patient die on my shift. That was quite nice. I know someday I’ll have to deal with death on a routine basis. I just wasn’t ready for that “someday” to arrive quite yet.

Good News: I said “I don’t know” about 10 million times today. While that has the potential to be very frustrating, today it wasn’t. Today I worked with a nurse who obviously loves to teach. I soaked up knowledge all day long. In fact, I soaked up so much (potential) knowledge that most of it hasn’t even registered yet. I keep having these AHAH! moments where a few cogs finally fit together the right way and I figure out the answer to a few more of my “Why? How? WTF?” questions.

Bad News: Sometimes the hospital isn’t full of the best smells. Today was not a very good smelling day. Unfortunately, I still feel like the smell is all over me, despite having washed myself AND re-sweatified myself by way of an afternoon run. Perhaps it’s stuck to the insides of my nostrils. I believe a good Neti-Potting is in order.

Do y’all ever get smells stuck in your nose? I often feel this way after I eat anything that smells strongly. I love sushi, for instance, but after I eat it, I smell it on my body for hours and hours. Tell me I’m not all alone on this one.
