Eddie Izzard on The Misuse of Language

(I’d deliver you an entire rant about the truckloads of words we misuse, but I, too, am guilty of calling everything ‘awesome.’)

(I will not, however, give in to my generations insistence upon using the word ‘like’ every time they take a breath. I listened to an NPR story the other day which contained quotes from people ranging in age from 14 to 20, and I swear to you, they said ‘like’ at least once every five words. Just shoot me.)

  1. And this is why we should be friends. I recently posted something similar (not simular) on my FB and one of my friends told me to get over it. But no. I can’t. And there I started a sentence twice with a conjunction. Shame on me.

  2. How about written language (letters, email, Facebook, blogs, Tweets, etc.) and the errors using there, their, they’re. And your, you’re. And to, too, two. Is this even taught in our schools anymore……or is it just laziness? This will drive me to an early grave.
