Delayed Family Christmas

We had to do family Christmas a little late this year because our (okay, my,) schedule was so wonky that the 28th of January was the first date that we could all get together. It’s a little non-traditional to have a celebration of Christmas at the end of January, but that’s kind of how we roll in my family.

Before the end of the night, we created a make-shift tri-pod and snapped a few family shots. This picture was kind of an eye-opener for me. Look how big my family is! We’ve always had a big family, because there are four kiddos, but now that two of us are married, and David’s got three kids, we’re a huge group!

28.

(I’m frowning because, as you’ll note, my Jalapeno Bull has himself a little problem, in that his right front leg is protruding out of the top of his head. Oopsie. That’s gotta sting.)

Throwback: My favorite pictures of Kate

I think this bottom one is my all-time favorite. Her expression is just priceless. She was only a month or two old there, and she was just starting to smile. I had just finished a baby photos shoot with her, and I still had my camera out when she started grinning at me. She was too close to my face for me to look through the viewfinder, so I just held the camera above my head and hoped that I got the shot. It’s fuzzy, and her chin is missing, but her expression makes up for the picture’s faults. That child melts my heart.

Treasure Falls

Because there has been very little snow this year, the hiking path to Treasure Falls is still open. There are people in our group who have been coming here for decades, and this is the first time that’s happened. We had to take advantage of that. I have only ever seen Treasure Falls from the highway, but this time we were able to hike right up to the base of the falls and see it first hand.  For a frame of reference, here’s a picture of Zack standing at the base of the falls:

We marched right up to where the snow base meets the icicles. I’ve never seen so much ice in my life. Zack said it made him want to go ice climbing. It made me want to read a book by a fire. But, to each their own, I guess?

Taking a Flight

One thing Zack appreciates about Colorado is that the whole state takes beer brewing very seriously. This is a flight that he ordered at the second of the three breweries we have visited in the last three days.

Needless to say, Zack loves vacation.
